Senior(14-18, Grade 9-12)

Every class combines singing, acting, and dance through advanced musical theatre training designed to develop technical consistency, artistic insight, and increasingly independent performance choices. Students experience:

• Musical theatre training integrating singing, acting, and dance through challenging repertoire, scenes, choreography, and creative performance projects
• Advanced vocal, dramatic, and movement exercises that strengthen technique, control, endurance, and performance readiness
• Independent and ensemble singing involving melody, harmony, musical texture, score reading, and stylistic interpretation
• Detailed study of scripts, lyrics, scores, characters, dramatic structure, and performance context
• Character development through objectives, relationships, circumstances, subtext, improvisation, and informed artistic choices
• Challenging choreography that develops strength, stamina, precision, musicality, stylistic clarity, and expression
• Creative opportunities to interpret, devise, improvise, compose, or adapt performance material
• Collaborative scene, music, and movement work requiring active listening, responsiveness, and shared artistic decision-making
• Detailed blocking, formations, transitions, stagecraft, and standard theatrical conventions
• Individualized feedback, reflection, and self-evaluation used to refine technical and artistic work
• Exploration of musical theatre styles, practices, and works from different periods and cultural contexts
• Two fully produced stage performances each year, incorporating costumes, lighting, props, microphones, and technical elements

By the end of Senior, students should be prepared to:

• Perform challenging musical theatre material with strong technique, expression, and artistic intention
• Sing melody, harmony, and independent vocal parts with healthy technique, accuracy, and stylistic understanding
• Read, interpret, and apply musical notation, terminology, score markings, and expressive directions independently
• Analyze scripts, lyrics, scores, movement, and dramatic context to support informed artistic choices
• Create and sustain nuanced characters throughout increasingly complex scenes and performance material
• Perform demanding choreography with strength, stamina, precision, musicality, style, and character
• Integrate singing, acting, and dance while maintaining technique, character, and storytelling
• Create, improvise, interpret, and refine original or adapted artistic work
• Apply detailed feedback, evaluate artistic work, and make increasingly independent revisions
• Collaborate responsibly while contributing ideas, leadership, adaptability, and support within an ensemble
• Use standard musical, dramatic, dance, and theatrical terminology confidently
• Demonstrate the artistic maturity, technical foundation, and rehearsal independence required for Senior Troupe or other advanced opportunities
• Pursue theatre at an advanced level for personal development, community participation, or future post-secondary study
