Intermediate(11-14, Grade 6-8)

Every class combines singing, acting, and dance through increasingly sophisticated musical theatre training designed to strengthen technical consistency, artistic understanding, and independent performance choices. Students experience:

• Musical theatre classes integrating singing, acting, and dance through more demanding repertoire, scenes, choreography, and performance projects
• Progressive vocal, drama, and movement training that develops greater technical control, interpretation, and artistic decision-making
• Focused vocal, acting, and movement warm-ups that develop healthy technique, physical readiness, and greater self-awareness
• Songs and musical activities that develop vocal consistency, notation skills, harmony, independent parts, and expressive interpretation
• Character development through script analysis, improvisation, scene study, objectives, relationships, and circumstances
• Longer and more technically demanding choreography that develops precision, stamina, musicality, and expressive movement
• Structured ensemble work that develops active listening, adaptability, rehearsal independence, and shared artistic responsibility
• More detailed blocking, formations, transitions, stage movement, and standard theatre terminology
• Individualized technical and artistic feedback that helps students refine and justify their performance choices
• Two fully produced stage performances each year, with costumes, lighting, props, microphones, and technical elements
• Opportunities to reflect on, evaluate, and refine individual and ensemble performances
• Perform for live audiences in fully staged theatrical productions

By the end of Intermediate, students should be prepared to:

• Perform increasingly demanding musical theatre material with greater technical consistency, expression, and artistic intention
• Sing melody, harmony, and assigned vocal parts with healthy technique, accurate entrances, expressive interpretation, and growing independence
• Read and apply rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, articulation, musical notation, and rehearsal markings with reduced teacher support
• Learn and retain longer, more technically demanding choreography with greater precision, stamina, musicality, and expression
• Create and sustain believable characters using objectives, relationships, circumstances, voice, movement, and textual evidence
• Analyze scripts and communicate relationships, tension, dramatic focus, and character development within longer scenes
• Integrate singing, acting, and dance with greater consistency while maintaining character, technique, and storytelling
• Apply detailed feedback, reflect on artistic work, and make increasingly independent adjustments
• Collaborate responsibly within an ensemble while demonstrating preparation, adaptability, and greater rehearsal independence
• Use standard theatre terminology, blocking, formations, transitions, and performance conventions confidently
• Demonstrate the technical foundations, artistic maturity, and rehearsal responsibility needed for Senior Musical Theatre or an Intermediate Troupe audition
