Berkan Görgün

Berkan Görgün is a Toronto-based choreographer, director, performer, and dance educator whose work bridges contemporary movement, theatrical storytelling, and cross-cultural collaboration. Trained at Ankara University State Conservatory, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Stage Arts (Modern Dance), he spent over a decade with the Turkish State Theatres as a performer, choreographer, and movement director. Working across classical adaptations, contemporary theatre, and large-scale musical productions, he developed a distinctive movement language grounded in dramaturgy, musicality, and physical precision.

International Training & Artistic Development

Berkan's artistic practice is shaped by extensive international training and research in contemporary dance, ballet, hip hop, and Gaga technique. He has participated in workshops, residencies, and collaborations with internationally recognized artists including Jeroen Fabius, Angela Linssen, Sahar Azimi, Onur Orkut, Robin Berkelmans, Ziya Azazi, Yaniv Abraham, Eldad Ben Sasson, Bobbi Jene Smith, Beatrice Larrive, Sebastien Ramirez & Honji Wang, Tangente Tanz (Germany), Ido Tadmor, Tuğçe Tuna, Mafalda Deville, and many others. He has also collaborated with artists and institutions connected to Amsterdam, Berlin, Tel Aviv, and Copenhagen, expanding his movement vocabulary through intercultural exchange and interdisciplinary exploration.

Choreography & Directing

As a choreographer and director, Berkan's credits with the Turkish State Theatres include Enchanted Mirror (Director & Choreographer), Kuyucaklı Yusuf, Wild Fire and Scout Birds, Magical Prince, Mermaid and Cute Pirates, Old World Tale, The Antiquarian's Family, and Confrontation. His additional professional work includes choreographing A Midsummer Night's Dream for Capital City Theatre and Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi – Flying for Gaziantep City Theatre.

Performance

As a performer, Berkan has appeared in productions including Anna Karenina (Stage Adaptation), Les Misérables (Stage Adaptation), Ahval-ı Hacı Bektaş Veli, and Divane Ağaç. He also performed in the short film Timeless Times, directed by Mert Güncüer.

Teaching & Professional Practice

Committed to both artistic excellence and physical wellness, Berkan is also a certified Pilates Instructor through the Turkish Gymnastics Federation. Today, he continues to create, perform, and teach in Toronto, drawing on his diverse international background to help students develop technical excellence, creative expression, and confidence through movement.
